The name Hickory came to be through the abbreviated interpretation of the traditional Maori name Waikerikikari, meaning 'The Bay of Angry Waters'.  The Maori were right, there's surf here most days. Situated on the eastern tip of Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, NZ, Hickory has powerful, punchy beachbreak waves with an uncanny consistency.
